Having spent 2 nights on a mooring in Portsmouth, Dominica, we have moved on to Guadaloupe today. The weather was foul, rained the whole way and 20 plus knots of wind too. Cold and all of us wearing jackets!
About half way across, in extremely poor visibility we came across a Dominican fisherman in his open boat and outboard engine. It turned out that he had lost his GPS and had no idea as to his position. He had been out all night and was very low on petroleum too. We towed him towards the Iles de Saintes until he could see them. He left us without so much as a thank you and I assume he got in safely. I wonder what his family are thinking about his non return yesterday.
We are docked in a small marina on Basse Terre at the SE end of the island, very snug and very packed. We were lucky to get in.
The forecast is for rain showers all next week, so we may just move on north to Antigua and see I'd the weather improves.
This area has 5 restaurants, but the main town called Pointe a Pitre has none. At least that's what we've been told so dinner locally I think.
All is well, but damp, on board.
