Scarborough, 6/7/2016

Guess what, we're on the marina here, all snug and comfy, AND AGROUND AGAIN! This marina is just about as deep at low water as the boat is. Anyway we're only just touching and hardly any lean.

Back to the Broadwaters incident. The Marine Rescue guys came back as promised. They spent about 20 minutes checking out water depths all around. When that was done I asked if I should try driving off on our own with their guidance. Try it was the answer. So I did and off we went following the rubber duck exactly to a local anchorage. All was well finally.

Yesterday morning at about 09.00 we upped anchor and set off back to the Seaway Entrance. The mud on the anchor would not come off and is still on it! Made from some sort of super glue. When we got to the bar it was rough and we had several crash bangs onto the water as we went through with Peter on the wheel for a change, all good experience for him. Left turn and on to where we are now, 19 hours later. We tied up at 04.20 this morning, exhausted.

Opposite the north end of North Strabroke Island we were forced to stop by a family of 3 whales crossing our bow about a boat length away. They are magnificent animals.

On leaving them we ducked in to have a look at using the South Channel between this island and Morton Island, but no luck so it was on around the top end and thread in through the channels into the bay. It was horrible with cold westerly and strong winds on the nose and short, steep waves on the bow. On top of that the tide was ebbing at between 2 and 3 knots against us. Our through the water speed was up to 7.5 knots, but over the ground was as low as 3.7 by times. Horrible sailing but eventually we arrived here on the marina. Today I cleaned all the mud off the side of the hull where we had been lying, and the high water mark too.

Cheryl, Peter's wife, joined us from Melbourne and will be with us for a couple of weeks. She will rejoin later to go to Lombok. In the meantime I have booked to stay here for 2 nights before heading off to Mooloolabah for a night.

I'm so thankful that there was no damage to the boat or ourselves.
