Trial Bay, 28/6/2016

Well, what a day!

Up and away at 06.30 this morning, not as cold as it had been so that was good. As we left the river the New South Wales fire service were at work on the river bank. It looked like a camp fire had flared up in the strong wind and set fire to the trees nearby.

As we got further out the wind piped up and so we put out the headsail only. Winds were up to 41 knots or approx. 86 kph, force 6 to 8 in the old money. This was enough to propel us at 12.3 knots at times and achieve 8.3 average for the journey.

Seas got quite big, around 6 metres and confused too, but the autohelm coped until near to Trial Bay when I took over. We reefed the jib so as to control the boat and speed more easily. The boat behaved very well all day as usual.

Plenty of wales around and some spectacular breaching displays, also some dolphins again.

We are now anchored for the night in Trial Bay, near the western shore. Its blowing about 15 to 20 knots but we are snug on the anchor.

Tomorrow off to Coffs Harbour to anchor again.
