Sunday 20th July
We arrived in Luganville this lunch time having journeyed through 3 islands on the way from Porto Santo. The first one was Epi, a very pleasant island, Val went ashore with 2 others and Darryn & Hugh stayed aboard due to playing with the new batteries which turn out to be no better than the old ones!. It had the black sand beach and there were children running over to where one of the other boats landed. They had a great reception and were led to the village for a visit. We all left the next morning, heading north to Ambrym.
Arrived at Port Vato on Ambryn. We all anchored for the night. At 8 the following morning we had 2 visitors as previously written. Everyone went ashore to the villages and had a great time in Church (!) on a Saturday morning. Hugh stayed behind due to the difficulty of landing in the surf at the beach. All were given a tour of the area and had permission to walk up to the nearest volcano, 3 hours away. Nobody went! Later the chief came on board BlueFlyer to meet the Captain, a real gentleman- the chief that is!
We all left this lovely spot and headed to Malakula Island for the night. We parked in Bushmans Bay to the sound of a herd of cows waiting to be milked. A few drinks and nibbles on BlueFlyer followed by an early and rolly night. All upped anchor at around 6.30 AM and we were joined by Cleony on the way north to Luganville. A great days sailing followed by anchoring for the next 2 days. This is our last anchorage on the World ARC trip!! Our next stop is Cairns where the Australian authorities are being arkward and are insisting we all check in at Marlin Marina in Cairns and not Yorkies Knob. We await an update on this. If this is the case then we will leave the boat in Cairns and rent a car to go to the celebrations arranged at Yorkies Knob.
Pizza & Pasta night tonight ashore, so must go - good night with plenty of food on offer. Mandy, the WARC organiser, said that our sailing directions will say we land at Marlin Marina in Cairns.
For those of you interested, it is now 12 months to the day, July 20, that we left Dublin to start this trip of approx. 14000 miles so far.

Hugh and Val,
You are in good hands with Darryn at the batteries. (I may be a bit biased being his brother) If he can't get it sorted out, at least he can hook them up to a bike and you can cycle here on the electric bike.It might be a bit wet on the bottom of the ocean though!
Good luck and make sure you get him back to my niece and Tania soon.
