Saturday 19th July
Yesterday we sailed in wonderful conditions from Epi to Ambrym island and anchored for the night in a small indentation called Port Vato. Tallulah Ruby and Northern Sky are with us.
Some went ashore immediately and walked to one of the 3 villages here, meeting the chief.
We all cooked up something to eat and dined aboard Tallulah, very nice and an early night.
There were hopes of seeing one of the 4 active volcanos in the dark from the boats, but there was a huge bright moon and the volcanoes were covered by their own clouds. However we could smell them OK.
This morning BlueFlyer had a couple of visitors from the shore - Peter, about 10 yrs and Jimmy, his father. They had a look over the boat and drank some coffee with us. All then went ashore (except Hugh). Val and Darryn brought gifts for the school - books, pencils, etc and Darryn gave Jimmy some of the high strength fishing line bought in Suva.
Plans are to sail on to Malakula island this afternoon in company and anchor for the night. Then tomorrow another sail on to Luganville in preperation for our last big crossing to Cairns, around 1300 miles, through the Barrier Reer.
