Almost half way!

Tuesday 4th December

We are now at the end of day 9, 1/2 way across, give or take a mile or 10, so we will celebrate that tomorrow when it really happens. It's only 8.30 GMT but sunset was a while ago.

Today was a good sailing day with steady 7.5 kts and holding 8.5 in the winds above 17 kts. Still not in any steady trade winds, but getting better. According to the panel in front of me we have 13 kts of breeze almost behind us, so we have the twin jibs out and a reefed main, in case of gusts in the night. We seem to be averaging about 160 miles/day at the moment, a great improvement on the 1st week of poor winds.

I am on watch from 8 to 10 tonight and then again at 6 in the morning, it is the only double watch and only happens every 5 days, so no great hardship. Val should have done it last night, but I stood in for the 1st one as she had to cook dinner. Talking of which another fish bit the dust today! And one of the other hooks was grabbed and straightened out by something. Thank goodness it wasn't still on the line when we pulled it in!

Hi Val

I have just been speaking with Maggie as it is her birthday today. Congratulations to you and Hugh on your adventure so far! I know you have been experiencing difficult conditions in recent weeks. I havent had time yet to read your daily blogs, but look forward to doing so in the morning.
Take care. Meriel
