Grenada, 18/3/2017t

After a slow, and therefore long, trip to the Caribbean, we are now safely ensconced in Port Louis Marina, Saint George's on the lovely island of Grenada. And the first circumnavigation is done and dusted.
As a postscript to the previous blog, unfortunately 3 of the skippers got robbed in Olinda. One lost a load of cash, one his mobile phone and the third had his camera ripped off his wrist. Such a shame.
A few days out  the out haul broke on the main he mainsail. This rope pulls the sail out from the mast along the boom. With a lot of trouble we repaired it 3 times. Each time we pulled up the sail the rope broke again. This time we will use a steel shackle! The really good thing is that other than greasing a squeaking winch, that's the only problem on board.
Michael and Jamie have both proved capable watch keepers on board and are staying on till Panama, hopefully through the Canal too.
We have been joined by John Moffitt from Florida for a month on board. John and his wife Priscilla have their on boat, Apria, in Estonia at the moment. Val and I met them in Dublin 17 years ago on their way around the World. Europe is as far as they've got so far, you can't rush these things!

On arrival here, at about 10.30 pm, we were welcomed by fellow sailors and the WARC people on the dock. After tying up we were presented with a welcome bag of goodies. Unfortunately it included a bottle of rum punch. I say unfortunately because yesterday, starting at about 10.30 as well, there was a rum punch drinks tasting on Golden Dragon. It finished, along with uncounted bottles of rum, later around 6, in time to go to a brewery for a BBQ style dinner, and beers of course.
Tonight it's off to the yacht club for welcoming cocktails, God it's tough sailing on a boat around the World!
Tomorrow I am trying to organise a diving trip for some of us, and an introductory course for Jamie and Michael as the same time. There are other activities planned, including an island tour. Then I think we will tour the
Grenadines before hitting St Lucia for the finish of the event. A sad day in store for us all.

More to follow later, but in the mean time have a great life.
