Here in warm and sweaty Jacare Marina we are just about to attend the skippers briefing before tomorrow mornings departure.
Our next destination is Sant Georges in Grenada. This is about a 12 day sail of 1900 plus miles along the north coast of Brazil, but offshore to avoid the outflow of the Amazon river. This gives about a 2 knot contrary current, not wanted!
Today Jamie and Michael did the last of the food shopping whilst all of us skippers wasted our time in the immigration process. The guy doing it in the local police station s a pain in the proverbial and keeps everyone waiting for at least an hour, as he did with us when checking in here.
Yesterday we went south to Olinda and enjoyed the carnival. Very noisy and enormous fun and jam packed with locals having a wonderful time.
In Grenada we will be joined by John Moffitt from the sailing boat Apria. Val and I had the pleasure of meeting John and his wife Priscilla in Dublin about half a century ago! Their boat is in Estonia at the moment. Then, when John leaves us in Antigua, my sister Judith is joining till Panama.
Touch wood we have had no repairs to do, bar the stanchion base. That was broken by a neighbouring boat when a swell came through from a power boat. Unfortunate but not serious.
The main engine has been checked over and the generator serviced. The air conditioner has been a real boon in this heat, the only problem has been keeping the intake filter clean.
All is well on board and we are looking forward to leaving Brazil behind.
