We depart this lovely island in the next hour or so, depending on Customs clearance. It has been a real blast from the past! No readily available Internet, only one bank and no ATMs and no electronic banking. Everyone is paid by cheque on Fridays.
The currency is usable only on the island, although it is par with Sterling. Nowhere else will accept it!
The bank charges 5% on any foreign transaction and 2% to change into Sterling.
It's been fun touring the island and seeing Napoleans house of exile, and looking at the Briars where he lived initially. Having done that there is only swimming with the Whale Sharks left over, and they are magnificent creatures.
Looks like light winds again to Brazil, more motor sailing. We have changed destinations and are now going to Cabedelo, north of Recife. It's 150 miles shorter and nearly 500 miles nearer the Caribbean, but should still have Carnival for us.
The engine on the last leg averaged 2.2 litres per hour at 5 knots with the help of the Genoa. The generator uses about 1.1 litres per hour so not too bad.
All is well on board and we're looking forward to visiting Brazil soon.
Apologies for the late publication, this one was in the draft box and I didn't see it.

Hi Hugh, Becca is making good progress now she is 2-3 weeks post op. She has a dramatic L shaped scar but is otherwise not changed on the outside. Now she has to find out if it is another op or chemo next. I got my Irish passport today and the girls are thinking of doing the same thing. Wishing you good winds. Love J
Great news.w
Thinking of Beccas daily.
