We are well settled in at the Zululand YC now and would be very happy to stay here in this wonderfully welcoming club. However we do need to get to Cape Town and so we are leaving tomorrow for Port Elizabeth. There is a good weather window and it would be a shame not to use it.
During our stay here we have visited a wetlands area, the oldest heritage listed park in the World. Fascinating to see the animals in the wild, and the variable flora as you move through the park. We also went on safari, admittedly only a day one, but still fascinating. The only downside of this visit was the sight of 2 white Rhinos with their heads cut off by poachers a couple of nights before our arrival. There was a bonus of seeing a lion asleep under a tree having gorged on the rhino carcass.
In the club there have been a couple of BBQs with a lot of meat and beer and wine! So a busy week here for all the fleet, most of whom are staying on still.
On the boat front, the front tank was removed and cleaned out. There was water in the fuel which made the generator sick. That has still to be repaired in Cape Town, but there is now a new pre filter fitted, bigger and better than the last one. After a good inspection of the deck filler and vent piping, I can only conclude we got wet diesel somewhere. Probably in Cocos Keeling Islands. l also have had the boat cleaned below and washed above.
We had a visit by the Ocean Cruising Club who also ran a BBQ to celebrate some prizes for a pair of boats who did sterling work in Vanuatu after the destruction brought about by the recent cyclone. Whilst they were here Jenny and John had a look over BlueFlyer as one of their Grandchildren and her partner are joining in Cape Town for up to a year before resuming normal life ashore. I'm looking forward to meeting them soon.
Yesterday I booked flights to Melbourne and back for Christmas and a Granddaughter fix too. Lots of souvenirs to bring home as Christmas pressies. Really looking forward to seeing all the family again. It's been too long.
