Wide Bay, 9/7/2016

Once again we motored all day. 8 hours from Mooloolaba to here. We did however put up the foresail for a while and it looked very odd. We had it out on the port side for the first time this trip! The sheet looks much cleaner than the other side.

There are some amazing beached around Queensland and we are starting to see some. Todays seemed to have 4 wheel drives playing on them, but I know the further north we go the less people will be around. The sand is an amazing red colour in places, but mostly golden colour.

Cheryl saw her first whales today, a couple of them came close to us and then disappeared. Then there were dolphins as well, so a good day for the wildlife, especially as Peter hasn't caught anything yet.

Wide Bay Bar was its usual uppity self, but the Coastguards are great. They gave us 2 waypoints to follow, bringing us safely through the break in the bar. We didn't even wet the decks. Another yacht followed us through and is now anchored about 1/2 kilometre away. The anchorage is the same place that Val and I used 7 years ago and is still beautiful.

Tomorrow we hope to navigate the Great Sandy Straight to Urangan Marina. Hopefully no running aground this time. We did do it going south previously with no problems.
