Another day's motor sailing, another spectacular display by whales. They are amazing, how could mankind have almost exterminated them? I'm told that there are now at least 20,000 of them each year doing their annual migration up and down the east coast of Australia.
We left Coffs Harbour at 06.30 and had a few hours sailing, and then it was on with the ever faithful Yanmar again. On arrival at the Clarence river we found the bar very benign indeed, but the trip from there to the marina quite interesting with windy and shallow channels. We waited for a couple of trawlers to depart and then went straight to the fuel dock and topped up the tank. We have used about 120 litres since leaving Sydney in 58 hours of motor sailing. That is very economic for such a powerful engine, but a hell of a lot more hours than planned.
On a related topic, the new batteries and charger are working really well. With the fridge, freezer and an anchor light on all night, and our own lights use, the voltage has not dropped below 12.6 so far. I'm really happy about that.
Tomorrow we're off to Ballina, pronounced with a short final a here. It sounds strange to my ear. A short trip of 35 miles, but we have to wait for the tide here in Yamba to start the flood.
