January 12th 2010 - Now in Launceston

Having tied up yesterday, we had a meal out in a restaurant about 2 kilometres down the road and then walked back to the boat in the dark.

This morning we arranged to stay another couple of nights on this marina and then 2 of us got a lift into Launceston and the other two followed on the local bus. Val & I picked up the rental car from Avis and then had a short look around Launceston before heading back to the boat an d dinner in the local hotel. I had the battery cable lugs on the generator replaced to-day as one had corroded off, and now the generator starts well but then decides its overheating and shuts down. I suspect a short circuit has recurred in the sensor wiring. Darryn had done a repair on the way to Cairns in 2008, and I presume the fault has returned again. Ah well nothing changes.

Tomorrow we are going to Cradle Mountain, a World Heritage Park on the west side of the island. Val & I were there before and really enjoyed our stay, and Dennis & Richard have not been there at all.

Thursday the weather looks better and we may well set off then.

Dennis suggested that we leave the boat here and drive around to our proposed stops, photograph them and then return to Melbourne!
