Back on Island Time - and Lifestyle!

Monday 7th July

We have moved to Suva, the capital of Fiji, on the south east corner. It is NOT the sunny SE as it rains here 365 days per year, Victoria eat your heart out!

We got a taxi in Port Denerau and it took over 3 hours to cover the 188 Kms, in the rain and sunshine. We called to the Royal Suva Y.C. on arrival and discovered that BlueFlyer was anchored outside the club, but could not come in as the Customs & Health don't work on Sundays. By telephone we found out the VHF radio is not working, it just blows fuses all the time.

Monday morning, after a night in a hotel (not great as a load of multi-legged extras were staying as well), we all got into the same taxi - the driver stayed in Suva as his wife and children live here - and went to Customs. Wrong building in town so off again around the one way system to the docks. Could not enter as the driver had no I.D. on him. No problem, Darryn became a taxi driver! We drove between the unloading containers etc. to the correct Customs building. In we went and found a helpful agent and the promise is that the boat will be cleared this morning. It's 1pm as I write this, but we are island time! It looks like tomorrow is the earliest departure now.
We are all temporary members of the club and will have lunch here after Val and Darryn return from shopping.

All 3 of us went out in the club boat and spoke to them on BlueFlyer. The boat looks well and it's great to see our home again!

I have emailed our weather man in Perth with our ETD and hope to get a new forecast from him soon. I had a look at our route on Google Earth and leaving here seems OK. We head S.W. to avoid a couple of islands and reefs and then head to Vanuatu and Port Vila.

Hey Sailors,
What an adventure so far! Glad to hear that all has worked out and the final leg of your adventure is off and running. No doubt you will encounter more surprises on the way, just to add a little more spark to the journey. Lets hope the high seas are kind and the winds blow in all the right directions... if not, H & V will have to get Darryn on the case, I'm sure he has enough puff, especially when it matters. Get practising moving those hips, so you can give those islanders a run for their money (Hugh, maybe you could just be the instructor and sit this one out). Enjoy, eat well and be safe.
