Quito

Thursday 21st February

Today we are leaving Quito to return to BlueFlyer in Salinas. A flight of 35 minutes to Guayaquil and then a 2 hour taxi to the marina.

Whilst we have been here in Quito we all managed to visit the Otavalo market and buy a few souvenirs. On the trip to Otavalo we stopped at a couple of shops which was interesting. One was a leather goods town, not just a shop. Lovely bags, etc but no room to bring too much. The other was a little souvenir shop with statues, etc made up from cornflour, salt, glue and vegetable dyes. One of the women working in the shop made up a Shrek as we watched. All of 30 seconds to make it, but 2 hours to set hard.

The hotel is very comfortable and relaxing, but all the bills have tax on top of the quoted price, and then there is 10% tip added as well!

When we get to BlueFlyer we have to refuel and rewater, both of which may be interesting given the facilities that don't appear to be available. We have all been told that the tap water is not drinkable, so we will fill up from bottled water. Could take a while.

Google Earth shows your two positions on Friday as being questionable. The one at 15.45 puts you on dry land and six minutes later at sea outside the harbour. Are you happy with the GPS?
Good luck with wind and weather
