Partying hard...

Saturday 9th February

Its 12.30 in the morning and we are just back to the boat.

Today we filled the fuel & water tanks ready for Sunday's off. Rob has made a side piece for the bimini in dark red and white material, it is great and will keep the sun off the side of the cockpit. It has taken him about 4 days to do it, and the purchase of a sewing machine, as well as 7 metres of material.

This evening we went to the first WARC prize giving and party in a local disco bar. A lot of people there, all having fun with the free drinks, provided they were Rum or Vodka from the sponsors of the evening. Then at about 10.00 there was the prize giving from the Caribbean leg.

There are 4 classes A the biggest boats, the next down, including the 3 SO49s, C was about the same, and then multihulls. In class B another of the 49's came in 2nd, and then the winner of the class was announced, and Val collected the prize on behalf of BlueFlyer! Didn't we do well. There are photos on the WCC web site.

After all that we all got onto 3 disco buses and headed to Panama. These are mad. No windows, loud music, beer and rum and dancing in the centre. We stayed up to the 1st stop and got another bus back.Too loud for us. At the 1st stop there was a local band playing on the side of the road, so of course 3 busloads of WARC sailors hit the pavement running. Much merriment and there was also a local folk dancing couple in full traditional costume, and I'm sure there will be photos of them as well. It is rumoured that the buses may return around 5 in the morning!

The electronics technician is due to come in the morning for the radio & GPS. Lets hope its something simple. We rang Raymarine in the USA as we are in their territory to get service. When we said their local agent was too busy and could we get repaired in Ecuador, it turns out there is no agent in Ecuador! So when asked what could be done, the response was Gee, I dont know. How helpful is that? I see a letter to Yachting Monthly coming on.

Anyway I'm off to bed...
