It's been a while!

Thursday 10th January 2008

Apologies for the long gap between blogs - we haven't had much time (having too much fun!) or access to the computer either. Briefly, we spent about 10 days in Antigua over Christmas which was nice. We stayed at a beach resort, which, despite being a little dated and past it's prime, was pleasant none-the-less. Hugh took a SCUBA diving course and is now fully qualified, while we both spent much time in the water enjoying the coral and fish etc. Then we flew back to Martinique, where we picked up the boat and continued to cruise.

So, we left Le Marin (where the boat was) and travelled all of a dozen miles around to a little bay on the west of the island, just south of Fort de France, motoring with the jibs out, what a relief to leave, we were a little over Le Marin! Then we went to St.Pierre (a little further north on the island), and then onto Guadaloupe.

The air con has been on during the evenings and now that the water intakes are clean of wormie things again it seems to be working properly. At least it's blowing out cool air into the saloon and our cabin. We found when the boat was out for the rudder repairs that there little white worms on the hull in dense clumps and I suspect that these were blocking the intakes. I also think they travelled with us fron Las Palmas.

We are currently sailing north with main and jib out in a lovely force 4 easterly, so just reaching along at about 7 knots. I started to clean the dirty marks off the hull whilst the other 3 were swimming. Water is about 30c and very clear. We are going to blow up the inflatable kayaks this afternoon too!
