Saturday 8th December
We passed the 1000 miles to go mark at 7 this evening!!
We are in the midst of most un-tropical weather - mizzly rain showers with the odd wind squall thrown in for good measure. You should have seen our track during the thunder storms, it was like a drunken sailor in Glasgow on a Friday night! We didn't get hit by any of the lightening all the same.
Because we have one jib pole broken, and the other one weakened into a banana shape, we cannot pole out our jibs and head straight downwind to St Lucia, instead we have the small main & jib up, and our boat speed is well below expectations. We will have to keep gybing our way as well. Still means that Friday is our likely arrival day - 19 days - not the hoped for 17.
The generator and watermaker keep on working, thank goodness, and we should be OK on diesel until we arrive. I am keeping the aft tank filled each morning and have the Las Palmas water in one front tank in reserve. We will use it for showers when we are close to St Lucia - about all it's fit for.
I see on the ARC fleet news that the 1st boat has arrived, that's about 2 days slower than normal, so perhaps were not too bad.

Hi Val,
Thanks for you email Have replied.
You're doing great. Hurry up, you'll be there soon. Parts of the trip sound pretty rough, but Dublin Bay isn't looking too inviting to-day either.
Keep up the good work.
Tony x
