Where's the wind?

Friday November 30th

Day 5 already! We are just north of the Cape Verde islands, would love to be further on, but the winds are either light, or as last night, strong in the totally wrong direction!

A Mahi Mahi (dolohin fish or dorado) landed on board at around 7pm - on Val's watch! This is one that didn't get away! It's now wrapped in newspaper and in the fridge.

Later on the wind then blew up to 40 knots - sending us toward Africa - so the sails were put away and the engine on. We motored slowly in the right direction for the next 4 hours.

Another hot day in store tomorrow as we head southwest (much use of the sunscreen). The sea is calm and there are several gannets flying around this morning. No dolphins or whales yet today (there were a few dolphins playing yesterday).

The generator is running and the watermaker is refilling the water tank. We have found the battery charger powered by the generator is wrongly set and only charging the batteries to about 60% capacity, so, we will run it for about 6-8 hours every day and then run the engine for an hour or so to put in more power. Not the plan but we'll have a look at the charger later.

Hi Guys,

Well done, you leave behind you one of the worst summers for sailing I can remember.

This weekend was "oh yes" wet and very wild.

Warm wind and water are the envy of us all up in the north.

Just remember its an adventure and time is NOT of the essence.

Lots of luck
