Its Halloween in Reunion so tonight will be party time for the fleet in the local restaurant here in the harbour.
The trip over from Mauritius was half sailing, followed by motoring the rest. As it was only 20 hours nothing very much happened. Nothing broke and we used hardly any food or fuel. On arrival the Customs, Immigration and food inspection went smoothly. As we had no food on board that part was easy, the garbage bag was the only casualty.
The fleet is rafted up in pairs, we have a Jeannneau 53 beside us from Australia.
There are no facilities here other than a public toilet and showers, but there are some power and water terminals. We have managed to snag one, using a splitter and sharing with the other Jeanneau.
We have been to the nearest shopping mall, name of Jumbo, and laid in some Euros and stores, as well as getting data cards for phones. I have a collection of them now. South African one next. We all hope the service is better than on the islands.
Yesterday was spent on a bus trip to a volcano in the SE of the island. Some amazing scenery like lunar landscape. The lava field was not very interesting as we were about a 3 hour hike away and it was not active anyway, but we were at 3000 plus metres above sea level. I haven't been that high in years!
Weather permitting we leave on Saturday, heading SW to give the Madigascar weather and sea conditions a wide berth, at least 130 miles south of the island, and then west to Richards Bay in South Africa. About 10 days and 1400 miles, fingers are all crossed for the conditions on this leg. It has a reputation!
