We are now sailing West having rounded the northernmost tip of mainland Australia. Woo Hoo!
On leaving Cairns in the late afternoon we ran into some really rubbishy weather, 38 knots of wind and a lot of cold rain.
The plan was to overnight in Cooktown but the entrance looked so horrible we carried straight on to Lizard Island, with its luxury resort. It didn't look like much from the boat when we anchored. There were about 8 or 9 other boats there too. Dinner on board and then off again the next morning, heading to Morris Islet. This tiny island has a very good anchorage and a large lagoon too. Very picturesque. Peter went ashore in the dinghy and now claims to hold the record for rounding Morris as a senior, who knows. He did say that the place stinks of bird product.
We had lunch on the boat and then departed at 1.30 heading North along the shipping channel to Cape Greville. We arrived to find 2 catamarans sitting on anchor as well. Dinner of fresh fish, caught by Peter, making up for one that got away previously.
We left that evening and have been through the Albany Channel, round Cape York and now we are headed to Gove, 350 miles non stop, so no blogs for a couple of days.
All is well on board and there is NO diesel leak finally. We still have 2 full tanks of water and almost all our diesel too.
Pictures later when processed.
