Bowen, 5/8/2016

WE SAILED ALL DAY!!!
Yes, we left Abell Point Marina this morning at 08.30 under engine. Stayed on the engine for about an hour till we rounded the first headland north, then out with the sails and off with the motor, such quiet.
The winds were directly behind us up to 33 knots, Force 7 in old money, so it was mainsail only mostly. As we rounded the north end of Gloucester Island the wind dropped to about 5 knots so I put on the engine to get us past the lee of the high island. As we left the lee a wind gust, known as a bullet, came onto us and broke the 2 retaining clips on the bimini. $3 each in a chandlers in Airlie Beach. You get what you pay for, especially if its Chinese stainless steel. No damage done and the bimini was back up again in about 2 minutes.
The channel into the marina is very narrow, but marked, and not overly deep, but we made it without problem. I did a touch parking job on the pontoon, but we're OK.
We are out tonight to explore downtown Bowen, shouldn't take too long. The boat next door invited us to join him in a local hotel this evening so that's where we'll end up.

Tomorrow's plans are very much weather dependant as I'm not sure I want to face the channel again in high winds, and we are on anchor for the next couple of nights too.

It's all beginning to sound a bit exciting! Wishing for gentler winds for the next leg. J
