Thursday 12th June
A brief update to our log since leaving the boat.
Val & Hugh flew Air New Zealand from Tahiti to Auckland and on to Melbourne. The airline was great and really looked after both.
Hugh had surgery in Melbourne as an emergency admission within 18 hours of arrival. A discectomy on the spine.
Having spent a week in hospital he was transferred to Rehabilitation to start the long road back to normality, hopefully. Physiotherapy twice a day for another week and then back to Fiona & Davids to stay.
Today Air NZ did it again and changed the return flights to Tahiti to flights to Fiji to rejoin BlueFlyer at no cost and on the day requested. The boat is being sailed from Raiatea to Musket Cove by a crew from Melbourne. It is hoped to arrive before the 5th July so that the boat can be at the start in Fiji.
Hugh is now reduced to using only 1 crutch most of the time and is walking and doing the exercises twice a day as ordered.
