Motoring along...Day 4 on the Pacific

Thursday 13th March

Not a lot to say in this entry. The weather continues to be good, and the wind continues to be bad, ie almost none! We have motor-sailed all day and last night, its very tedious and not much fun. I refilled the engine fuel tank this afternoon and at the low engine speed of 1600 RPM we are getting 2.2 litres/hour which is very economic for a 100HP turbo diesel. The generator is on holidays at the moment as its not needed for charging the batteries. We have approximately 550 miles of motor-sailing available. This is allowing 4 x 20 ltr cans for the generator and 1 x 20 ltr can for arrival in Hiva Oa.

We have, at the moment, between 3 and 5 knots of wind depending on which way the mast is swaying. But because we are motoring along we make our own breeze, the apparent wind, and we use this to help the engine propel us.

I looked at the chart plotter this afternoon and we are now approximately 2500 miles from Hiva Oa, a mere trot in the park! but we better get some wind soon!

We would love to receive some more emails from you all out there so please get mailing.

To Maggie I have to say thank you for the comments and no, we have not received any mail from you recently. Alan thank you also for your comments, and please send us your email address.

afs - can you please let us know who you are, before getting Hugh and Val's email address?

There have been "spamers" commenting on the blog and I don't want them to get hold of Hugh and Val's satellite email address.

Other blog readers - please don't give out their email address if you don't know the person! Thanks, Fiona

Sorry if I'm causing you a headache. Am a real person (honest to God), but don't want to post my email address because of the spammers. What next? Swap Messenger names, maybe?
