Monday 17th March....HAPPY ST PATRICK'S DAY!!
Well here we are on day 8, still in the middle of nowhere. However, we are all agreed that this is the best St. Patricks Day weather we've ever had. It was also good fun.
This morning Val painted shamrocks on our faces (Shin being an honourary Irishman for the day) and in the log book for today. We also had Sharon Shannon on the radio endlessly.
I gave out the answers of the BlueFlyer quiz. There weren 't many entries out of the fleet.
Each morning we have a little competition to see who gets the nearest to the 24 hour daily run. Shin was within 2 miles yesterday, and Paul was spot on today (190 and 176 miles respectively).
Shin threw together some pancakes for breakfast. Sandwiches for lunch, followed by scrabble again. The winner today was Shin, with very little help from anyone but his translator.
The sea seems a little rougher today, irregular waves that push the boat around a lot, just like the Atlantic, but no proper swell has yet built up. Its a great comfort knowing what the weather holds in store along the way ahead. This is from our weather forecasters and the other boats ahead.
As I write this we have 1731 miles to go, plotter shows 9 days at this speed, 7.8 knots. 1/2 way should be on Wednesday, another celebration no doubt.
I am going to email ahead to see if I can get replacement batteries for the boat as I'm not happy with the way the charge is falling off so quickly. I suspect that we have some middle of the range cheap French batteries. They last out the warranty period and then fail.
I topped off the water tank again to keep it up all the time, I dont like not having a front tank in reserve.
While I was up forward lying on the deck checking the generator, a wave very kindly came over and washed me all over! Very refreshing indeed.
