Thursday 20th March
All is well here on the good ship BlueFlyer. We are rolling a fair bit now and heading a little further south than I want, but the wind blows where it blows and we can only follow along.
Val has just finished baking some bread, banana and wholemeal. Looking forward to that.
We have sailed, according to my daily position fixes some 1616 miles form Puerto Ayora and we have 1401 to go to the turning point outside the harbour in Atuona in Hiva Oa.
For your information our daily mileages are:
Sun-Mon, 12 to 12 122 miles
Mon-Tues 157
Tues-Weds 124
Weds-Thurs 127
Thurs-Fri 177
Fri-Sat 191
Sat-Sun 176
Sun-Mon 165
Mon-Tues 176
Tues-Weds 181
Our average is now 162 near enough, this gives a journey of 18.5 days. The 27th keeps coming up as our ETA. My guess at the start was the 30th, so we a bit faster than expected.
I am in touch by email with Raymarine about our ongoing problems with the GPS and the flaring plotters, but nothing constructive yet from them. The GPS lost its fix 6 times yesterday and has been perfect so far today.
Still no fish on board, we wonder what we're doing wrong. Storyteller ahead of us has told the crew to stop fishing as they have too much on board!
As we are heading too far south, I have given notice to the crew that we will be gybing the boat next week! Although it may be earlier. They require plenty of notice for these manouvers!
Val says that we have 6 dinners left on board with meat in them, so we better not dally on the way.
