Showers are great...!

Sunday 27th January

It's late afternoon here and we are just rolling along. Wind has been 10 kts and boat speed 5 to 6. It's very warm and cloud-free, and the seas are flat. We've all had a shower and feel much better. The generator and air con have been running all day and I've just put 20 ltrs of diesel in to keep it going.

Val is being terribly creative for evening meals. We had chicken breasts and potatoes with veggies last night, it was great. She made the bread I mentioned earlier and the whole loaf vanished in an instant, along with the soup she made. It was brilliant!

This is such a happy boat - with jokes and music. Even the fact that the VHF is only working intermittently is not disturbing anyone.

I really despair of the installation of the electronics on the boat, the more I'm forced to investigate, the worse it seems to me. However I am hopeful of getting it sorted in Panama City. I'm going to buy another handheld VHF set and a spare handheld GPS so as to be independant of the boat's electronics in future.

The wind has finally picked up now at 1900 local time here, a bit later than predicted, but exactly the strength and direction predicted, and so we are back up to 7 kts over the ground. It feels much better than slopping around in lighter airs.

You appear to have had a tremendous run of 256 miles, one of the fleet best. You are not racing, are you? Great progress, hope it is exhilarating as well as fast.
