Thursday 6th December
We are now well past the 1/2 way mark, less than 1400 miles to go. To celebrate we opened a bottle of cheap Spanish bubbly. Actually it was free from the Las Palmas supermarket that didn't deliver our meat. I think that Neptune got most of it. We then had Argentinian steaks and they were gorgeous, with roasted vegetables. Val made another great desert too.
Its 0515 in the morning (as they would say on RTE), and raining. Both Mum & I are sheltering below decks and the nav gear (Otto) is doing his thing. We are expecting stronger winds but BlueFlyer is well able to handle them. John, our skipper, is saying we have an ETA of 13th or 14th, which is encouraging. At one stage there was slight cause for concern as we had such a slow and bad start.
Another fish snared today, a big Dorado, about 1/2 as big again as anything previously hooked. It waited until almost on board and then wriggled free as the gaff approached. Don't blame it one bit!
